FLAMING STAR

This is a drawing [approx. 8 hours, Bristol Board, 2mm lead holder (E2-B), and a tortilian] of the final scene of the movie, Flaming Star with Elvis Presley [pictured]. In the final scene Pacer (Elvis portraying a half white/half Kiowa named Pacer Burton) rides mortally wounded to insure that his (full white) brother, Clint is alright. His last words [pulled and paraphrased here from the brief dialogue with his brother] are: "Don't come no closer. I just want to make sure you're all right. Don't try to help me, Clint. I've been killed already...stubborn about dying...Too late. Too late. The only thing to do now is to die...You live for me, Clint. Maybe someday...somewhere people will understand...folks like us...when I was fighting off the other Kiowas...I saw the flaming star of death. I gotta last long enough to go into the hills and die." This movie is a real classic. It also starred Steve Forrest, and Barbara Eden.
